Two Château Petit Village Vintages
Over the past few weeks, I explored two standout vintages: 1989 and 2009 Château Petit Village from Pomerol.
The 1989 vintage was a special bottle from Zachys Collection, a treat for celebrating Ariana birthday (Thanks, Emily!). For comparison, I picked up the 2009 from Acker Wine. Both highlight Merlot's finesse and the power of Pomerol terroir, yet showcase unique personalities.
The choice depends on your preference: the 1989 for its refined maturity or the 2009 for its powerful vibrancy!
1989 Château Petit Village
Profile: Medium garnet color with aromas of earth, forest floor, dried figs, tobacco, and subtle spices.
Structure: Silky tannins and an elegant, refined palate—perfectly aged for drinking right now.
Honestly at this point, you don’t need to think about food pairing, just enjoy the bottle!
2009 Château Petit Village
Profile: Deep garnet color, vibrant black cherry, plum, sweet spices, cocoa powder, and evolving leather tones—15 years young and still fresh.
Structure: Full-bodied with smooth tannins and youthful opulence—great to enjoy now or hold for later.
Perfect pairing: Duck spring rolls. The rich jus paired beautifully with the wine's texture and bold flavors!
Which would you pick?
